Trailer anlysis 3

Trailer analysis
Friday the 13th 1980

In the trailer for “Friday the 13th” the audience isn’t really shown that much other then the lead up to a death because back then in 1980 all the audience really went to see a horror movie for was the interesting ways in which the murderer could kill his/her victims.

The trailer is shot in a very standard way but what this trailer has that modern day trailers don’t is a narrator, even though he is just counting numbers for each murder there is modern day trailers don’t tend to have this. When the first few numbers come on the screen you can’t really tell the reason for them but by the end you know that they are counting up each murder that happens within this film. You can tell this by the way the people start screaming and the shot of knives that are shown.

The sound effects in this trailer are sudden and low toned but there isn’t as many sound effects in this trailer compared to a more modern trailer. But when this film was made slasher was quite a new sub genre in the horror franchise and all that the audience really cared about was how the victims were going to be killed and what special effects would be used in killing them. That’s why this trailer got it right in showing the audience all the different victims just before they died so it keeps the audience wondering and wanting to go and see the film. It keeps the audience excited and wondering what will happen.

Trailer analysis
The crazies 2010

The trailer for “the crazies” shows you equilibrium at the start of the trailer which shows a nice normal town but very quickly it changes into a town full of horrible events occurring. I believe that the equilibrium is shown to you at the start of the trailer to give the audience an idea of how it was when everything was normal, before everything changes for the worse.

The sound in this trailer is generally exaggerated sound effects like loud footsteps and the pouring of petrol on the floor this keeps the audience engaged into the trailer.
There is also a song played towards the end of the trailer, it is a soft and slow song which I believe has been put on this trailer to conflict the action that is happening, what you are seeing shouldn’t really fit with the music. The song that is played “ Michael Andrews-Mad World” creates a sense of sadness making the audience wonder if the town will ever be back to the way it was and it is things like this that makes people want to see this film.

The camera shots used within this trailer are fades and fast cuts like most horror trailers but this shows the audience when things are serious or at a good time because generally you will see fades at the start of the trailer when everything is at equilibrium. The quick cuts are used to thrill the audience by seeing a few images in a short space of time or a montage of clips. Mid way through the trailer there are clips played that fade to black in a sequence with an alarm sounding and this happens just before all the action and thrilling parts of the trailer kick in, its like a breather before everything you need to see is shown.

Trailer analysis 1

Trailer analysis
Silent hill 2006

Within the silent hill trailer it defines the main plot of the storyline which will entice the audience to see the film. It gives you a vague representation of the storyline along with fast cuts and edits which is used on many horror movie trailers. From the first minute of this trailer you can understand that this film is about a little girl gone missing within a place called “silent hill” and you can work out from this that the storyline will be the little girls mother trying to find her daughter in a place where things just aren’t right.

There is sound in the background of this trailer throughout nearly the whole two and a half minutes that the audience is shown. I believe this creates an eerie effect on the audience especially when the music builds up then just cuts to silence or the sound of a heartbeat. There are around 100 edits in this trailer with half of the cuts being fades and the other half just straight cuts. I noticed when watching this trailer that the fades only seemed to happen at a point of peace and harmony but on the other hand there were fades when information was being give the only times it cut was during action sequences or thrilling moments within the film and the sound goes along with the edits accordingly.

This horror trailer gives the audience a sense of confusion to show what the film will be like. This is why I believe it has cuts to text to give the audience the main idea of the film to keep them interested in watching the trailer or maybe even going to watch the film, it points out the main parts of the film within a couple of words each time there is a cut to text to plot out the main storyline for you so it doesn’t leave you confused because if you watch the trailer without having seen the film or without the text it doesn’t really make any sense this is why I believe it has been edited in to the trailer.
