Trailer analysis 1

Trailer analysis
Silent hill 2006

Within the silent hill trailer it defines the main plot of the storyline which will entice the audience to see the film. It gives you a vague representation of the storyline along with fast cuts and edits which is used on many horror movie trailers. From the first minute of this trailer you can understand that this film is about a little girl gone missing within a place called “silent hill” and you can work out from this that the storyline will be the little girls mother trying to find her daughter in a place where things just aren’t right.

There is sound in the background of this trailer throughout nearly the whole two and a half minutes that the audience is shown. I believe this creates an eerie effect on the audience especially when the music builds up then just cuts to silence or the sound of a heartbeat. There are around 100 edits in this trailer with half of the cuts being fades and the other half just straight cuts. I noticed when watching this trailer that the fades only seemed to happen at a point of peace and harmony but on the other hand there were fades when information was being give the only times it cut was during action sequences or thrilling moments within the film and the sound goes along with the edits accordingly.

This horror trailer gives the audience a sense of confusion to show what the film will be like. This is why I believe it has cuts to text to give the audience the main idea of the film to keep them interested in watching the trailer or maybe even going to watch the film, it points out the main parts of the film within a couple of words each time there is a cut to text to plot out the main storyline for you so it doesn’t leave you confused because if you watch the trailer without having seen the film or without the text it doesn’t really make any sense this is why I believe it has been edited in to the trailer.
